Spouse orientation and more on the potties

I was up again last night, this time for not quite as long. I'm definitely still on American time, and more than a little loopy because of it.

After my strange fascination with the toilet system here I was so glad to know that a whole section of the spouse orientation was devoted to this exact subject! We went into an in depth discussion of how to use said toilets, what clothing was preferable because of said toilets (skirts ladies, much easier and more sanitary than pants), and how to handle children with said toilets (just strip them from the waste down). We also had a great discussion on the electrical systems, housing, etc. Evidently it's not uncommon for people to be consistently under billed here for months for utilities, and then upon check out find out they have a 5000 euro bill (eek!).

After spouse orientation the girls and I trucked out in the storm to the commissary. Luckily it's just about a block away across a courtyard. They have a deli there that is a true Italian deli. (The areas on base are staffed almost 80% by locals) The girls got lasagna (Emma) and chicken with pasta (Liz), I ate this pepper, cucumber, olive, mozzarella, celery, cantaloupe (yes, the melon), and apple salad that is out of this world.

So now I'm sitting here, eating my lunch, posting to this thing, listening to Peter Gabriel and the rain outside. Not a bad day so far.

  1. sounds exciting and wonderful----am glad that you can walk to areas that you need to. How are the girls? Pets? Food sounds wonderful. Storms? That is interesting. Hope you get more sleep and rest soon. Love you-mom
